Brian Mulroney served as Canada’s 18th Prime Minister from 1984 to 1993, and few leaders in Canadian history left behind a legislative footprint as consequential — or as debated — as his. Elected in a historic landslide that gave the Progressive Conservatives the largest majority government in Canadian history up to that point, Mulroney arrived in Ottawa with an ambitious agenda and the political will to push it through. His tenure reshaped the Canadian economy in ways still felt today. He was a Prime Minister who understood that leadership sometimes meant absorbing enormous political cost in pursuit of long-term national interest.

For this 12×20 inch Custom Mat, we built the design around a striking black-and-white press photograph — Mulroney mid-crowd, hands outstretched, that unmistakable grin in full effect — the image of a politician who genuinely loved the arena. At the centre of the mat sits a vintage Canadian flag postcard, signed boldly in blue marker by Mulroney himself, his signature sweeping confidently across the maple leaf. It’s a pairing that feels entirely right — the flag as a symbol of the country he governed through one of its most transformative decades, and the man whose decisions, for better or worse, changed what that flag meant on the world stage.
