By 1977, the Rolling Stones had already cemented themselves as the greatest rock and roll band on the planet — but Love You Live arrived as something raw, unfiltered, and deliberately dangerous. Released as a double live album capturing performances from 1975 and 1976 across North America and Europe, it wasn’t just a document of the band on tour — it was proof that the Stones in a live room were a completely different beast than anything captured on tape in a studio. The album cover itself became instantly iconic: Andy Warhol’s irreverent, almost grotesque illustration of Mick Jagger’s famously oversized lips locked with a woman’s face — provocative, colorful, and dripping with the exact energy the Stones had always stood for. Warhol and the Stones were a natural collision of two of the most transgressive forces in 1970s culture, and the artwork he created for Love You Live remains one of the most recognizable album covers of the era.
